A note on an interesting association of the crab Platypodiella picta (A. Milne-Edwards 1869) and species of Zoantharia Naturalis
Hartog, J.C. den; Holthuis, L.B..
In the framework of the CANCAP-Project, a long-term oceanographic collecting program performed by the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, extensive shore collections were made from 1976 onwards on most of the Macaronesian Islands. During the collecting trips, a very ornamental crab, Platypodi ella picta (A.MILNE EDWARDS, 1869) was found on three occasions by the senior author. In addition the species was collected on the coast of Senegal. In all cases it was found associated with species of Zoantharia.

Bruggen, A.C. van.
Dr Agatha Gijzen (Rotterdam *9 October 1904, Merksem/Belgium †19 February 1995) was a remarkable zoologist in more than one respect. Although her professional career, spanning more than three and a half decades, was largely spent as a staff zoologist in the service of the famous Antwerp/ Planckendael zoological gardens complex in Belgium (1947-1974), she had already made her name as a zoologist/historian by obtaining her Ph.D. degree in 1938 on an extensive first study of the history of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie in Leiden, the national museum of natural history of The Netherlands. She properly organized the archives of the museum for the very first time and her published doctoral thesis (unfortunately only available in Dutch; summary in...

Notes on a drawing of Indian elephants in red crayon by Petrus Camper (1786) in the archives of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie Naturalis
Bruggen, A.C. van; Pieters, F.F.J.M..
A drawing of two Indian elephants, signed "P. Camper f. 10 Sept. 1786", in red chalk or crayon, was found in the archives of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie in a manuscript by T.G. van Lidth de Jeude (1788-1863). Van Lidth de Jeude, professor at Utrecht university, obviously intended to use it as an illustration in his projected manual of the mammals in Dutch. The drawing is almost completely identical to an unsigned drawing in the Artis library, one of a series of three. The Leiden drawing is traced back to H. Schlegel, director of the Leiden museum 1858-1884, who most probably obtained the Van Lidth de Jeude papers upon his death. Van Lidth de Jeude is likely to have acquired the Camper drawing from G.J. van Klinkenberg (1768/69-1841), who in...
